Description |
Français : Exploration et colonisation trouvent dès le début du 16e siècle leur justification dans l’évangélisation des populations rencontrées. Au 19e siècle, les missions chrétiennes pénètrent à l’intérieur des continents. En 1846, deux prêtres bénédictins sont chargés par le pape d’évangéliser les aborigènes et de contribuer à l’expansion du catholicisme dans l’Ouest de l’Australie. Ils créent une colonie : la « Nouvelle-Nursie », seule, prospère, à se maintenir dans cette zone sauvage « peuplée d’anthropophages ». L’éducation des enfants et des adultes vise l’assimilation de savoirs utiles à l’exploitation économique du pays autant qu’à l’adoption d’injonctions morales toutes européennes.
