Diagram showing barrel dimensions of British BL 6 inch Mk I naval gun. Mk I fired an 80-pound projectile. Note that this diagram does not show the gun as first built in 1880. It shows the gun as modified in UK service by "chase-hooping" which involved shrinking extra sleeves around the barrel to strengthen it. This is known as the "81 cwt" version, which differentiates it from the original Mk I 80 cwt. |
