PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, California -- The 7th annual Salinas Veterans Day Parade held in Salinas on Nov. 11 brought together young and old from throughout the county to honor veterans of conflicts spanning the past 75 years.

Participating dignitaries included former Secretary of Defense, Grand Marshal Leon Panetta, Congressman Jimmy Panetta, Salinas Mayor Joe Gunter, Presidio Garrison Commander Col. Lawrence Brown, DLIFLC Commandant Col. Phillip Deppert, NSAM Commander Capt. Rich Wiley, and others. The day started with Congressman Panetta administering the oath of enlistment to gathered enlistees,

Col. Brown presented lapel pins to veterans of WWII, the Korean conflict, the Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. After brief remarks from Grand Marshal Panettta and event organizer Tony Viruetta, more than 125 participants entered the parade route.

A small reception following the parade featured a dance tribute by young students from the Salinas School of Dance.

"...let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting and enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain..." --Dwight D. Eisenhower, October 8, 1954
