Description
English: A B-1B Lancer from the 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., participating in a Green Flag exercise takes off, May 15, 2012, from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The B-1B's synthetic aperture radar and advanced targeting pod work in concert to track, target, and engage fixed or moving targets, enabling it to perform in close air support, interdiction and non-traditional surveillance, intelligence and reconnaissance roles in addition to the strategic bombing mission it was originally designed for. The B-1B crew practiced these new missions with Army ground forces at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., during the Green Flag-West exercise.
