Description
English: Azurite
Locality: Idaho
Size: miniature, 5.7 x 5.3 x 4.8 cm
Azurite
A surprising old piece from the collection of William S. Vaux (1811-1882)....This shockingly well-preserved rosette of azurite is composed of many intergrown crystals, to 1.0 cm across. The specimen appears to be a floater, with moderate luster and a rich, bluish-purple color. Good azurites from Idaho, like this one, are exceedingly rare. I personally have never seen one and would like , if anybody knows it, to know which historic locality produced azurites so good from this state?! ex. Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences Collection, a bequest from one of its founding families.
