Autun (Saône-et-Loire) Le Lycée Bonaparte. En 1639, les Jésuites commencèrent à acheter des maisons a l'ouest du Champs de Mars, pour construire un nouveau collège, l'ancien étant devenu trop petit. Les travaux de construction débutèrent au tout début du XVIIIe siècle. Les grilles en fer forgé sont érigées en 1772. Les Jésuites étant bannis du royaume en 1763, pour avoir refusé de payer les dettes d'un des leurs impliqué dans une énorme faillite financière, le collège est confié au diocèse, puis en 1786 à la congrégation de l'Oratoire. En 1789, le "district" (la sous-préfecture) s'installa dans le bâtiment. Temporèrement, le collège servit de prison pour les "suspects". Le collège est surtout connu pour le séjour qu'y firent les frères Joseph et Napoléon Bonaparte. Joseph et Napoléon arrivèrent à Autun le 1er janvier 1779. Ils étaient conduit par leur père qui se rendait à Versailles comme député de la noblesse de Corse. Le choix d'Autun peut s'expliquer par le fait que neveu du général Marbeuf, administrateur de la Corse, était évêque d'Autun. Napoléon étant admis à l'école militaire de Brienne (Brienne-le-Château dans l'Aube), quittera Autun fin avril 1779, son frère Joseph y restera jusqu'en 1783. Les classes du collège allaient de la sixième à la seconde. Les mathématiques, la littérature latine et la mythologie occupaient une place importante. Cet établissement, devenu lycée, continue de fonctionner de nos jours. La structure n'a guère changé.
