Description

Autun (Saône-et-Loire)

Passage Balthus.

Passage couvert construit au milieu du XIXème siècle, à la place de la halle aux marchands forains. Il a conservé un décor néo-renaissance et la verrière d'origine.

Les anciennes halles, édifiées en 1742-1746, furent abandonnées en 1835 et transformée en passage couvert en 1848. La façade du XVIIIe siècle subsiste, tandis que la galerie présente encore des décors du XIXe siècle.

Le passage couvert été baptisé "Passage Balthus" en 2008, pour rendre hommage au peintre, qui s'était installé dans le Morvan.

Lors d’un séjour chez des amis à Vézelay, Balthus découvre le Morvan et, séduit par le paysage, il achète en 1953 le château de Chassy où il restera jusqu’en 1961. Pendant cette période passée dans le Morvan, Balthus réalisera soixante-dix tableaux, plus du tiers de ses oeuvres connues.
