Summary

[edit]
Description

Photo taken by R. McGeehan of Balaclava, Victoria of Australian soldiers at an army training camp.

This further information from someone with a depth of knowledge in this field. "There were Regional camps for the "Annual Continuous Training" of the Militia. This group looks much larger than from any one Region. IF Victorian, it may have been part of a 'gathering' of the entire 3rd [Victorian] Military District.

The Officer, third from right in the front row appears to be carrying a silver trophy. Perhaps they are returning from a sports match or shooting contest. On closer 'inspection' what I took for a level crossing in the background, now appears to be the entrance to a sports ground. There is definitely a gateway surrounded by white picket fencing and at least one large tin shed on that side of the road. The tunic arm badges suggest that the men are senior NCO's"
