DescriptionAustin Taxi 1939 East Anglia Transport Museum 8583304389.jpg |
The DVLA database records that this vehicle was first registered 18 July 1939. Googling reveals that this was the last of the coachbuilt taxi designs, succeeding the LL and known to cabbies as the "Flash Lot" on account of its streamlined styling, but not built in great numbers because of the outbreak of war: Malcolm Bobbitt, Taxi!: The Story of the 'London' Taxicab (Veloce Publishing, 2002) (see Google Books). FXD742 itself has appeared quite often in TV period dramas: Poirot. The Man Who Knew Too Much, Movie, 1956 |
