| Description |
English: Ashley Cross, New Forest. This picture puts the observation post in 56510 into context, looking north from the edge of the Amberwood Inclosure. The brick structure is out on the open heath, looking north along the plateau along the ridge where new bombs were trialled during the Second World War. The area was ideal for this purpose as it was remote from settlements, flat, and considered to be "wasteland". I think the famous bouncing bomb (from the "Dam Busters") was tested here. |
