Summary
[edit]DescriptionArykanda Helios temple region 3870.jpg |
English: On the top part of The Helios Temple. The Temenos was erected on a piece of land that was created by shaving off the surface of the rocks on the side of the hill. The temple could be reached from the east and west through specially built propylons. Three steps of its crepidoma are partially well preserved. No architectural elements remaining from its main structure above the stylobate have been discovered so far. So the plan or ortder of this Hellenistic temple cannot be determined.
Source: Notice on site. From On the Lycian Way, a book sold in museums in the area: “The Sun God was known as Sozon in the local language and as Helios in Greek. There are many offertory steles found around the temple of Helios dedicated to Halios. […]” The image of Helios’ radiant crown and of Helios beside a horse are frequently seen on coins from Arycanda. I could not identify the nearest region. |
