Description

c/n 6652. Built 1959. On display at the Midland Air Museum, Coventry Airport, UK. 11-10-2015

The following info is from the Midland Air Museum website:-

“Built in Coventry, the Argosy first flew in 1959 and 73 were built, 17 civilian examples and 56 of the 660 version which served with the RAF. Our example was the second prototype and after use by Armstrong-Whitworth for vibration, engineering and tropical trials, was sold to an Riddle Airlines in Florida in 1961. After use by several American operators she returned to the UK in 1974. She was acquired by the Museum from her last operator, Elan Parcel Services. She flew back to her birthplace at Baginton on 20th February 1987; this delivery flight was the last flight of an Argosy in the UK and G-APRL is one of only seven complete examples left in the world.”
