Summary
[edit]DescriptionArms DenysEightQuarters WithStillArms Dodd'sFarm Pucklechurch.svg |
English: Denys arms as sculpted above entrance door of Dodd's Farm, Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire, formerly a Dower house of Siston Court and since 1906 re-named Dennisworth Farm. The first seven quarters are as stated in Maclean, Sir John & Heane, W.C., (Eds.), The Visitation of the County of Gloucester Taken in the Year 1623 by Henry Chitty and John Phillipot as Deputies to William Camden Clarenceux King of Arms, etc, London, 1885, p.49 (with blazons corrected). The 8th quarter added (which replaced a repeat of quarter 1) is for Still (Sable gouttée d'eau argent, three roses of the last seeded or barbed vert), being the arms of Nathaniel Still (son of John Still (c.1543-1607/8), Bishop of Bath and Wells), whose daughter and co-heiress Mary Still was the wife of John Dennis (1616-1660) of Pucklechurch, as is recorded on a mural monument of the family in Pucklechurch Church, also showing the arms of Still (see . These arms quartering Still are thus those of Mary Still's eldest son William Dennis (1644-1701) of Pucklechurch (whose mural monument is in Pucklechurch Church), Sheriff of Gloucvestershire in 1689, who married Dorothy Cotton, a daughter of Sir John Cotton, 3rd Baronet (1621-1702), of Conington in the County of Huntingdon.
