Summary
[edit]DescriptionArdmore fault plane - geograph.org.uk - 1358962.jpg |
English: Ardmore fault plane. There are several locations of geological interest on the shore walk around Ardmore Point; see: 1358774
One of them is shown here: the flat side of the long straight rock outcrop that starts halfway up the left-hand edge of the photo lies on a geological fault plane. The rock that makes up that outcrop has risen relative to the rock on the near side of the fault plane (the corresponding rock layers on that side are below ground level). For the context in which this fault is found, see: 1358960. Towards the top right corner of the image, where the rock outcrop disappears among the vegetation at the top of the beach, is a location where parallel scratches occur on the rock; these are results of the slippage along the fault line. For an image of these scratches, and for further details, see: 1358955. |
