Arthanareeswara Arthanareeswara ou Ardhanarishvara est la forme androgyne de Shiva et de Parvati. Chacun occupe une moitié du dieu. Cette forme de divinité représente la synthèse des énergies masculines et féminines de l'univers ( Purusha et Prakriti). Oeuvre provenant de Ukra Kaliamman Kovil, Thanjavur Xè siècle Pierre (?) Cette dynastie domine toute l'Inde du sud au Xè siècle. Tanjore (Thanjavur) a été la capitale du royaume Chola (dynastie Chola : 850-1279) Le musée est situé dans le complexe des palais qui datent pour l'essentiel des XVIè et XVIIè siècles de l'époque Nayak (dynastie Nayak : 1535-1674), c'est ce qui explique le style indo-musulman du patio. La muséographie n'a pas été revue depuis de nombreuses années, ce qui ne met pas en valeur les oeuvres pourtant remarquables qui sont exposées.
