Archaizing statue of Athena, known as the "Dresden Pallas". The vertical pleat at the front of the garment is decorated with panels showing scenes from a Gigantomachy (battle between gods and giants).

Place of discovery Rome, in the vigna of S. Sisto del Monte Magnanapoli, southeast of the Baths of Caracalla (1662)
Object history Acquired in 1728 from the collection of Flavio Chigi in Rome. Restored by Adam Brefort in 1663, immediately after its discovery (see the plate in Leplat). The restored head and arms were removed in 1822; the restored feet and base in 1896.
