Its position would indicate it to be that which waserected in fulfilment of Sir Thomass Will. We cannot, however, identifyit with certainty, because, although some of the details may appear tocorrespond in date with that of the Will, there are other parts which, aswell as the general character of the masonry, seem clearly to belong tonearly a century later; and these remarks will apply even to some MISCELLANEA. It may be that the instructions of the Willwere not carried out immediately on the death of Sir Thomas, and thatremovals and repairs may have modified the original composition of thework. Be this as it may, with the Will before us, we have felt justifiedin introducing the cut. In this connection it cannot be without interest,and may well engage the attention and investigation of the archaeologist. 1 The above document is written upon paper, in a hand of about theend of Ed. III. ; and is torn off at this point. There may have beenmore declarations in it, but it seems complete. Although no date is given, we have the pleadings of writs de cui invita in which Lora, as the widow of Sir Thomas, recovers these manorsfrom the feoffees.—47 Ed. III.
