(3) THE SUBMARINE STRUCTURE AT LANGBANK Just as the Clyde controversy was becoming stale inlocal and quasi-archseological circles, the announcementof the discovery of another crannog on the Clydeestuary added a fresh element of expectancy to those whohad interested themselves in the difficulties raised by thenovel revelations of Dunbuie and Dumbuck. As regardsfunction and date of occupancy, as indicated by thesuperficial position and general arrangement of the wood-work, there can be no doubt that the chronologicalhorizon of this new site corresponds with that of Dum-buck. Its chief and almost only relics—the bone combwith Late Celtic ornamentation and the small brooch of 196 ARCHEOLOGY AND FALSE ANTIQUITIES brass or bronze (Plate XIL)—are also in harmony withthe post-Roman date of construction previously assignedto Dumbuck and Dunbuie, and having a possible rangeof from 400 to 1200 A.D.
