Text: "Major Champain said he was decidedly opposed to attempting at present the establishment of railways in a country like Persia (Today Iran) and it was quiet true also that canals could not be introduced because there was absolutely no water in the country, It was 5000 or 6000 feet above the level of the sea intersected by rangs of mountains and there was no navigable river in whole country, with the exception of the Karun in Arabistan country (Today Khuzestan province)" |
