Summary
[edit]DescriptionApse of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Left Side.jpg |
English: Mosaics in the apse of Santa Maria in Trastevere.
In the upper band, 12c, Christ and Mary are elaborately costumed - like worldly emperors, perhaps - and flanked by various saints and popes. The narrow band below shows Christ as the Lamb of God, with halo, surrounded by his 12 disciples (represented as lambs) along the river Jordan. The city of Jerusalem is shown at photo left, and Bethlehem (not visible in this photo) on the right. In the middle band, 14c mosaics illustrate the Annunciation (l.), Birth of Jesus (center), and the Presentation in the Temple (r.) Later works (Angels) occupy the lower band. |
