Note accompagnant le dessin (note 13) : "Nous avons cru pouvoir rendre par le mot berceau le grec ampeloz en latin Vinea qui signifie berceau de vigne, tonnelle, gloriette; il paraît naturel de rendre par le mot français correspondant l’idée qui a présidé en grec au nom de la machine. Pour ces tortues, voir César, B. C. II, 2; Tite-Live, XXXVII, 6; Végèce, R. M., IV, 5, et la figure ci-contre extraite de Héron de Constantinople.
