Sketches of a Lion
Description
English: Barye drew these sketches in preparation for modeling "Lion and Serpent," his famous statue, which originally stood in front of the Tuileries Palace. In addition to showing the lion with its forepaw raised, as in "Lion and Serpent, No. 3," (Walters 27.87) he also included studies of the lion's claws and paw.
