Thecourt house was set on fire, but was happily saved. The meeting-house (No. 7) was built in 1712, and repaired in 1791. It wasin this building that the Provincial Congress sat in 1774-5. Thepresent Unitarian church is constructed of the old timbers, althoughthe appearance is materially changed. The old Wright tavern, inthe center of the picture, remains in good condition to the presenttime. PLATE III. Represents the engagement at the North Bridge. Capt. Parsons,who had been sent out by Col. Smith with a detachment of lightinfantry, posted Capt. Laurie with three companies at the bridge,while he proceeded to Colonel Barretts house in search of stores.The Americans had gathered on the high ground, west of thebridge, and now numbered about four hundred and fifty men, rep-resenting many of the neighboring towns.
