Notes A member of the House of Austria (Hapsburg Lip), depicted with a royal crown on a table and dressed in a Spanish saya. A companion to the portrait of her younger sister Maria Maddalena of Austria, Grand Duchess of Tuscany. Three sisters of Maria Maddalena become a queen: Anne of Austria (1573-1598), Queen of Poland and Sweden from 1592, Margaret of Austria (1584-1611), Queen of Spain and Portugal from 1599 and Constance of Austria (1588-1631), Queen of Poland from 1605. Since Anne died in 1598 (e.g. Uffizi, inventory: 2392 - 1890) and Margaret was never depicted with a royal crown (e.g. Uffizi, inventory: 2356 - 1890), it's undoubtedly Constance, who was shown in this portrait. Queen of Poland frequently sent gifts to her younger sister, including Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's amber and Polish costumes for her children. Identification of the sitter by Marcin Latka (Artinpl), 12.12.2021.
