Alabama.—The State geologist of Alabama allotted$1,000 for cooperative work in that State, which was metby a like sum from the Federal organization; the latterallotted, also, $12,000 additional in its own interests.The terms of the agreement of 1899 were continued tocover this cooperation. Under the general supervisionof Mr. H. B. Blair, topographer in charge of section, twoparties were engaged in work in six quadrangles. Themapping of the Opelika (Alabama-Georgia) quadrangle,for publication on the scale of 1: 125,000, with a contourinterval of 50 feet, was continued under the cooperation.The resurvey of the Birmingham Special was completed,and that of the Bessemer Special and Leeds quadrangleswas in progress, all for publication on the scale of1: 62,500, with a contour interval of 20 feet.
