Title
Anglo-Scandinavian mount
Description
English: Fragment of an Anglo-Scandinavian mount. The mount is openwork but has no original outer edges and currently in the shape of a quarter of a circle. The curved edge has arms that look as if they would have moulded into the outer perimeter of the object. Just below of the top of the mount there is a rivet hole containing an iron rivet. The object may therefore be either a tongue-shaped Winchester style strap end or perhaps a stirrup strap mount. The surface of the mount is extremely worn and has a reddish brown patina. There are traces of decoration on the surface consisting of branch-like swirls or leaves, which would also suggest that it is late Early Medieval in date. The reverse is plain and flat.
