Title
Anglo-Saxon sleeve clasp
Description
English: Copper-alloy hook-piece from a wrist-clasp of Hines's Form B18e or B20. The plate and bar are cast in one piece, and the bar consists of a rectangular area surrounded by a raised border and filled with transverse mouldings forming a kind of ladder pattern. The plate consists of three projecting triangular lobes, each with its apex outlined with a groove, and each with a small stamped circle in the centre. There are two small sewing holes, one between each of the triangular lobes. The centre of the front edge has a hook on the reverse. Of similar design to LIN-907D68, but with the ladder pattern characteristic of Form B18e; these, however, have small undecorated extensions to either end of the panel of ladder pattern. Early Anglo-Saxon, late 5th or 6th century.
