Title
An incomplete post medieval lead alloy button dating 17th - early 18th century.
Description
English: An incomplete post medieval lead alloy button dating 17th - early 18th century. The button is discoidal with an integral shank. The majority of the shank is missing. There is a casting seam that bisects the reverse. There is a cast motif of a rose on the front surface. This is a double rose with six petals and a pointed calyx between each of the outer petals. The inner petals are decorated with radiating lines. There is a central raised pellet with a ring around the edge that forms the centre of the rose. There is some distortion to the shape of the button.

Read (2005:86) illustrates this type of button for which he suggests a date of 17th - early 18th century. The style of decoration on this button is very similar to those on toy plates which also date 17th - early 18th century see Forysth & Egan (2005:256).

Dimensions: thickness: 3.63mm; diameter: 14.25mm; weight: 1.25g.
