Title |
An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon sleeve clasp. |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon sleeve clasp. It comprises of a cast rectangular plate and a raised bar. The bar is decorated with a series of transverse grooves. The plate consists of three broken projections alternating with two circular perforations. It has a mid-green patina.
The plate and bar cast in one piece suggests that this is a Hines Form B20, although with a fragmentary rear edge (which in a B20 should be shaped) it is not possible to be certain. The alternatives are B18 (with flat knobs along the rear edge) or B19 (with rectangular plate). All date to c. 470-570 AD. Similar examples which have been recorded by PAS include NCL-DF0AD4 and NMS-E7A387. |
