Title
An incomplete Post-Medieval purse bar
Description
English: A fragment of late Medieval to early Post-Medieval copper-alloy purse bar. This fragment weighs 5.99g and has a curved length of 55.0mm, measured with a flexible dress-makers tape-measure, (or 51.3mm when measured as a straight line from tip to tip ignoring the curving shape) with a break at both ends. The frame has a width of 6.7mm and height/depth of 3.7mm. The fragment has an 'L' shaped cross-section, the metal on the inner side of the curve being thinner, 1.1mm, than that on the outer side of the curve, 3.1mm.

The remains of a broken attachment hole is present, on the inner edge of the curve, close to one end. This has a distorted shape that suggests a diameter of c.3.1mm. It is probable that the break at this end of the frame occurred across another, now undistinguishable from the broken edge, attachment hole.

The outer surface, of the outer edge of the curve, is decorated with a multitude of incised or moulded depressed diagonal lines. These cross-hatched lines form a surface of small lozenges each measuring c.3.6mm x 2.2mm.

The breaks are worn and dried mud adheres over much of all of the surfaces including the breaks.
