Title
An Early Medieval buckle
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy buckle dating to the Early Medieval period (c. AD 475-575). The frame is oval, and the pin bar is offset. The lip is plano-convex in section and the lip is angled so that the flat side is on the exterior. Aside from the pin bar, the rest for the pin and the reverse of the buckle, the object has been decorated with cast relief basket weave-type decoration of a series of vertical lines interspersed with a series of horizontal lines all enclosed by a linear border of three rasied lines in the same style, following the curves of the buckle. The pin is now missing. The deoration is copper in colour and sheen whilst the undecorated parts of the buckle have a mid-green patina.

A similar form of buckle with elaborate decoration on the frame can be seen on the database: GLO-668C7F.

The overall dimensions are as follows: 26.9mm in length, 17.8mm in width, 3.07mm in thickness and 4.52g in weight.
