Summary

Description	Amboise (Indre-et-Loire) Tour de l'Horloge (13e siècle et dernier quart du 15e siècle). A cet emplacement, se trouve au XIIIe siècle une porte de la ville, la porte d'Amasse*, dont la voute en berceau brisé subsiste. La voute est la partie la plus anciennze de l'édifice. La Porte est transformée en beffroi au milieu du XVe siècle (vers 1445), sous le règne de Charles VIII. Des travaux sont réalisés au frais des habitants vers 1495. la tour se voit ornée d’une horloge en 1500. Sous le porche se trouve une statue en terre cuite de la Vierge Marie qui à l'origine était placée en haut de la Porte du Beffroi. Elle a été descendue pour rendre les offrandes plus faciles. La porte d'Amasse ou de l'Amasse, ou de la Masse, du nom de la rivière voisine qui se jette dans la Loire. Cette petite rivière prend sa source à l'étang de Sudais à Pontlevoy (www.flickr.com/photos/sybarite48/23410397361/in/album-721...)
