Summary
[edit]DescriptionAlnmouth railway station (16) - geograph.org.uk - 1365950.jpg |
English: Alnmouth railway station (16) American-built diesel locomotive 66610 heads a southbound tanker train past Alnmouth station's up platform with the signal box visible beyond the tank wagons.
Officially named 'Alnmouth for Alnwick', Alnmouth railway station is a mile from the small coastal town of Alnmouth and four miles from the town of Alnwick. By rail, the station is approximately midway between Newcastle and Berwick on the east coast mainline (which runs from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh). The station, opened in 1847, was formerly the junction for a branchline to Alnwick (closed in 1968). Today the station is managed by Northern Rail with train services provided by CrossCountry, National Express East Coast and Northern Rail. For a view of the station before it was rebuilt see [1] . |
