Allegorical and sacred subjects, and hermits. |

Description |
Allegorical and sacred subjects, and hermits. Drawings, ca. 1740. Fols 86v and 87v bear artist's name "Franciscus Aspruck deline" (87v) and "F[...]us Aspruck" (86v, some letters indistinct), apparently referring to Franz Aspruck: an artist of this name is recorded as having been born in Brussels ca. 1570/1580 and having worked as a draughtsman, goldsmith etc. in Augsburg until at least 1604. The present drawing might be after designs by that Aspruck, or executed by a different, later, artist of the same name The drawings of hermits (fols. 70-83) appear to be after Raphael Sadeler I's engravings after Maarten de Vos: Sadeler made five series of such prints, ca. 1598. At least one (Arsenius) is in reverse to Sadeler Iconographic Collections |
