Summary
[edit]DescriptionAllard Pierson Museum Palmyra Loculus relief 7632.jpg |
English: Loculus relief decorated with a bust of a man. He is shown frontally. In the Palmyrenian Aramean inscription on the right of the relief we read “Alas! Zabdidel son of Moqinû Habbê” The bent arms are shown in front of the body. His hair is shown in three neatly cut rows of strands. Zabidel wears a tunic with a v-neck over which a cloak is draped. With his right hand he holds a fold of his cloak and in his left hand we see a so-called schedula of a scroll. Limestone, 140 AD. On loan from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Copenhagen. Inv. Nr. I.N.1042. A note further explains that the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Copenhagen holds the largest collection of Palmyrene burial sculpture outside Palmyra. And: probably the reliefs in ancient times were colourfully painted.
Kalksteen 140 n. Chr. Bruikleen uit de Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Copenhagen. Inv. Nr. I.N.1042. |
