Summary
[edit]DescriptionAll Saints Church - south aisle - geograph.org.uk - 868574.jpg |
English: All Saints Church - south aisle. The tower of All Saints church > 868534 - 868557 - 868587 dates from the 14th century; it was restored twice during the 20th century and the sun dial above the porch, which has an upstairs room > 868597 is modern > 868542. The rood screen > 868565 dates from the 15th century and is unusual in that the paintings on its 16 panels depict not apostles or saints but kings. The tower screen > 868593 has the date 1605 carved in its doors. The C14 wall paintings above the arcades > 868579 are faded (or were overpainted at some time); the depiction of the stoning of St Stephen > 868584 in one of the spandrels is the only remaining scene that still is clearly visible. The octagonal font > 868589 is C15. The church is open every day. For more information see: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/catfield/catfield.htm |
