Summary
[edit]DescriptionAlianti'a de fratìa intre Borusî'a si Ostrungari'a.jpg |
English: Political cartoon in the satirical newspaper Gura Satului, published for the Romanians of Austria-Hungary. Original caption: Noi asiè intielegiemu alianti'a de fratìa intre Borusî'a si Ostrungari'a ("This is how we understand the brotherly alliance between Prussia [that is, the German Empire] and Austria-Hungary"). The black falcon of Prussia, wearing the Pickelhaube and donning the imperial cypher of Wilhelm I, holds in his claws two figures: on the left, a calm man in a kepi, representing Austria; on the right, a despondent busby-wearing figure symbolizing Hungary. Presumably the hope expressed for the Romanians is that "Prussia" would help put a hold on Hungarian ambitions inside the double monarchy, by strengthening the Austrian Germans. |
