Alexandra Graving Dock, Belfast

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Alexandra Graving Dock, Belfast. The Alexandra Graving Dock in Belfast was constructed 1885-1888 by contractors McCrea and McFarland (see 783539). The dock is named after the then Princess of Wales who turned the first sod of the excavation for the building works in 1885. This is a view out over the entrance to the dock which is permanently open as HMS 'Caroline' currently sits in the dock (see 687468). Across the Victoria Channel is the huge wood chips carrier 'Mimosa Dream' unloading at the Stormont Wharf.
