Description
English: alexander v masterskoy
A VISIT BY ALEXANDER I TO THE WORKSHOP OF J. DOW AT THE WINTER PALACE, I. Bennet & Thomas Wright after A. E. Martynova

Etching, aquatint, watercolor. 253 x410 mm. (leaf cropped), 3rd state, 1826

"Work on the engraving, apparently, took place in the second half of 1824 - early 1825 (that is, after Martynov's departure to Italy), in the same 1825 the board could be sent to England for the refinement of aquatint and subsequent printing. The figure of Alexander I was printed from a separate board through a paper clipping."
