Aleppo Khan al-Wazir

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This is the sock-making machine that I show as an example of the type of small industry one finds in these khans. Khan Al-Wazir or Vezir Khan. A caravanserai that dates from 1683, part of it has been destroyed during the French mandate to widen the adjacent street, but has since been reconstructed. I took not just pictures of its general lay-out and architectural details, but also some of one of the small-scale industry one invariably finds inside (this time I saw how socks are machine-knitted, fascinating). I am always surprised how people are not at all annoyed if they enter a workroom and find a tourist taking pictures there.
