| Description |
Akzona-Biltmore Building, Asheville, NC Built in 1978-1981, this Modern building was designed by I. M. Pei to serve as the corporate headquarters of Akzona, Incorporated, and was purchased by the Biltmore Company in 1986 to serve as their corporate headquarters. The seven-story building features a curtain wall with glass ribbon windows separated by concrete spandrels, a partially curved penthouse above the largest expanses of glass on the building's south facade, which is flanked by two rooftop terraces, stair and elevator towers at the western end of the building and at the center of the north facade, which feature concrete exteriors with few windows, and large planted beds surrounding a paved plaza on the south side of the building. The building, today known as the Akzona-Biltmore Building, after its two previous main tenants, presently houses various commercial office tenants. |
