Image title | FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq -- U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Logan Abrams (top), a Joint Tactical Air Control Party journeyman, or JTAC in training, relays information from his U.S. Army counterparts, who are surveilling a suspected explosives laden roadway with a Shadow unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), on Monday, June 25, 2007, to JTAC, Tech. Sgt. Mike Cmelik, who is controlling a B-1 bomber from the 379th Expeditionary Wing, based in Southwest Asia, to drop 13,500 lbs. of ordinance on the roadway. Airman Abrams and Sergeant Cmelik are assigned to provide support to the U.S. Army's 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. Air Force JTACs provide a critical link between their Army customers and the air power assets brought to bear on any given operation. This bombing mission severed a suspected main supply route used by Iraqi insurgents to bring accelerants from the south into the Baghdad area. The 3rd Infantry Division "Rock of the Marne" is deployed from Ft. Stewart, Ga. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Jim Varhegyi)(released) |
