English: Aghori Sadhus are a particular sect of Hindu Sadhus who live in cremation grounds and practice extreme forms of asceticism and spirituality. Varanasi, also known as Banaras, is a significant place for Aghori Sadhus, who can often be seen wandering around the city's streets and alleys.
Aghori Sadhus are known for their unique practices, including the consumption of human flesh and engaging in meditation and rituals in cremation grounds. They believe that by embracing everything that is considered impure and defying societal norms, they can attain spiritual enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The Aghori Sadhus of Varanasi are often identified by their ash-covered bodies and long matted hair. They are known to meditate on dead bodies, use human skulls as drinking bowls, and perform rituals using animal sacrifices.
