[edit]DescriptionAfter the flypast over HMS Illustrious - geograph.org.uk - 1555991.jpg |
English: After the flypast over HMS Illustrious The flypast over HMS Illustrious was timed to perfection as the aircraft arrived precisely at 2pm, and it was all over within two minutes. Most people in the huge crowd continued to wait in the forlorn hope that the aircraft would return. Here the departing aircraft can be seen as a scattering of black dots in the centre of the photo, and to the right of HMS Illustrious.
The aircraft carrier was visiting Liverpool between 22-27 October 2009 as part of the Navys celebration of its centenary of aviation, Fly Navy 100, and the flypast of naval aircraft was reported to include Merlin, Sea King and Lynx helicopters, Falcon and Hawk jets, GR9 Harriers, Fireflys, Seafire and Sea Fury. HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, took the salute. |
