Description
  • Italiano: Polifemo avvertito della presenza di Galatea; Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, (inv. nr. 8983); IV stile (45-79 d.C.). L'affresco viene detto proveniente da Pompei nell'inventario del Museo più recente (Sangiorgio), da Ercolano nell'inventario più antico (Arditi). Allrogen Bedel invece lo ha individuato fra le belle pitture rinvenute nel 1755 a Portici, nella villa romana scoperta in occasione dello scavo per le fondazioni di una nuova ala delle Scuderie Reali. Sui vecchi documenti l'affresco viene definito Ercole schiavo di Onfale. (Mario Pagano, "Portici archeologica", L'Erma di Bretschneider, 1997, pag. 9 e fig. 37).
  • English: Polyphemus hears of the arrival of Galatea. Ancient Roman fresco painted in the "Fourth Style" of Pompeii (45-79 AD), from Portici, Italy, now housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (inventory no. 8983).
