In the left foreground is the battelship USS Iowa (BB-61), which had entered dry dock after a grounding on 16 July 1943. In the right foreground is the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) and a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser, either USS Baltimore (CA-68) or USS Boston (CA-69). Five Benson/Gleaves-class destroyers are visible (one in the floating dry dock), a single Fletcher-class destroyer (dark camouflage) and the Free French destroyer Le Fantasque. On the opposite side of the pier with the floating dry dock at the top of the picture is the troop transport USS Wakefield (AP-21). | |||
