Adorno
Description
English: Adorno for an incense burner or theatre-type censer. Mould made. Open cotton bud or "trefoil" variant. Stem mostly missing. At one end (top.) the cotton in spiral form has a lobe curving inward in a clockwise direction. A crescent shaped lobe across the middle has curved inner grooves and down-pointing ends at each side and a disc or button placed on top at the centre. The surfaces of these features are textured with indented dots. The clay has fired to a grey -black. The lower end has an oblique break surface through the stem. The back is flat with the remains of a dark cementing substance or flattened clay pellet attached. Traces of white undercoat pigment cover the front and back. Red pigment survives in the recesses on the front.
