The young men wereborn in the dark chambers of lower New York, wherethe depraved herd by hundreds. They started lifewith a training that would have fitted them to swellthe crowded ranks of the desperate classes, underwmich they would perhaps have ended their days inthe prison or on the gallows. But a kind Providencebrought them within the reach of these Mission Homes,and they were saved — saved to themselves, saved tosociety, saved to their Savior; for all of them aredevout members of the church of God, and earnestlaborers in the mission work of the city.
