Description
English: Abernethy Round Tower Dating from the 9th or 10th century this is one of only two remaining Celtic Round Towers in Scotland. The other is at Brechin. There are 76 in Ireland. They served the Celtic clergy as bell towers,watch towers and in times of danger as a refuge. The tower is 72 feet high with an internal diameter of 8 feet and has a spiral staircase giving access to six floors and the roof from where there is a wide view.
