Summary
[edit]DescriptionAbbey Foregate, Shrewsbury - geograph.org.uk - 116705.jpg |
English: Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury. This row is dominated by The Crown Inn, which occupies two adjacent listed buildings. The part on the left was originally two dwellings and is dated 1725 with later alterations dated 1870 and 1876. One upper window has initials B over JM on the keystone. The two ornate pedimented gabled dormers with flanking ball finials seem designed to give the impression of a complete third storey. They were added in 1876. The second part was also built in the early 18C. The two houses beyond are shown more clearly in another photograph. |
